Daily Writing Prompt

Patrick is on a sinking ship. He writes a message to his lover. What does he say?

Dear Emma,
I am sorry.
I really am.
I am sorry to let you think we had a future together.
I am sorry for all the false promises I couldn’t fulfil.
Most of all, I am sorry that you love me. I am sorry that I can’t do anything more for you.
Life is harsh. Here I am, on a sinking ship with no hope yet no despair. Death faces me right in my eyes. As they say, time and the tide wait for no one. It certainly didn’t wait for us. Now, on the brink of death, I only think of one thing. Death and love are the same. Love is to die for the other person. Death is realizing that you would do anything for that other person. That you truly love them. And you are ready to die for them.
The world is God’s creation. Maybe we weren’t meant to be a whole. I have complete faith in God that it is for the better. He knows what He has done. It is a part of His plan. We are just mere insignificant mortals, a tiny speck of dust on His creation, actors playing parts in His play. There is no hope for me now. Move on, dear Emma. It would not be wise to disrupt God’s system of things. By the time you find this message, I will be long gone.
I hope you forgive me. I have one more thing to say.
I love you and I always will, even after death, and I am sorry that I was not your other half, a piece that reunites the whole being and mind.
I really am.

                                                                                Patrick

It all started from here…

She wore a red dress and yellow shoes. I looked at her in some sort of twisted admiration, hating her yet liking her so much I would give up my life for her. She strutted down the hallway like she owned the place, which she did. I had hardly known her for a few days but she made me spellbound with that confidence. The way she ate. That way she spoke. The way she laughed. For some absurd reason, she reminded me of someone. To be more precise, someone that had died a long time ago.

They told me her name was Belinda. She had introduced herself before the meeting. That too full of charm and charisma. I didn’t remember. I felt like I was in some sort of trance, paralyzed, not able to think or speak, as I saw her mouth move forming words that were unintelligible to me. All I cared about was that dress……it was the same one my best friend had worn to her funeral.

It crept me out. As soon as she left, the trance broke, shaking me back to this reality, a world where my best friend was no longer there. A world that was utterly meaningless.

“ Hey, you okay?” someone tapped me shoulder gently. I turned behind violently as I was not used to any sort of interaction. Most of our coworkers had returned to work as soon as she had left. They were hardworking people, I have to admit. Not like me.

“ You don’t seem that good. You look constipated” the one who tapped me o the shoulder declared. She had frizzy pink hair with blue roots and red fringes. Her hair was so curly that she had a pen tangled in the back and she probably didn’t know.  Her dress attire was….well lets just say abnormal.   ‘It looked like she had closed her eyes and picked out an outfit ‘I thought as I judged her red combat boots, Yellow jacket with pink jeans\bellbottoms.

“ Hey, you there??” she spoke again and waved her hand in my face. I felt slightly irritated at her concern. What did she want from me? She was not there when I had actually needed emotional support.

“What do you want?” I muttered harshly. I wanted to be left alone with my mood.

“ Nothing. Just the files you have been working on. Also an umbrella. Its pouring outside.”

I had not noticed the climate till now. I looked outside the huge windows, with the half shut blinds. The girl tottered over and pushed up the blinds. It was indeed raining outside. The entire sky was gray. Thunder boomed as lightning flashed, illuminating the whole room. Everything flew around with the flow of the wind, paper and magazines held a party in the air. The wind was seriously strong.

“I hope you do have an umbrella, Blue Jay. Its gonna be really dark.”

No one knew my spy name in this company.

At that exact moment, the lights went out.

Bumping into destiny..

Mini was the 16 year old caucasian female teenager, whose hair swept all the way to her face as she paced up and down the aisle nervously. Her legs felt like noodles in a soup. She wouldn’t be surprised if she had a fever! “Calm down, Its only a matter of minutes the result would be announced.” She told to herself. “HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CALM DOWN WHEN THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING MOMENT OF MY LIFE”! Her mind shouted. It was annoying like that. She straightened down her dress and accidently knocked down someone. “Watch it! The girl yelled. She lowered down her newspaper. Mini froze. She couldn’t believe her eyes!

Mini?

Rimi?

They both said at the same time. Rimi, her former best friend from 6 years old was standing just there as calmly as the grownups and the rhinestones on her glasses glinted.Mini didn’t know how to react. But Rimi made the decision for her. She embraced her warmly and Mini unfreezed as she remembered her quirky and amazing friend. She felt as even after 6 years she would never forget her.

“What are you doing here? wheezed Rimi as she got away from Mini’s crushing hug. She smiled nervously.”I should ask you the question Rimi Kaur? Where have you been since you vanished in thin air a century ago? Mini demanded. Rimi pouted. “Since father lost his wealth for a reason i am forbidden to tell until the next day, mom grew very angry with him.There….there were fights between them..We had to leave. So without informing anyone of our disgrace…we crept away. Father passed away after that…Rimi said in a melochony voice. It had all been done years ago, but it must be a tremendous burden for her. She imagined herself in Rimi’s boots as a scared 10 year old girl, crying as her father and mother talked loudly and threw things. She stopped. Curse her imagination! Now all she wanted to do was hug Rimi and have a meltdown in public. “I am sorry” She sympathised, as Rimi gazed in the window. “Its quite ok now” she gave a sad smile. There was an uncomfortable silence for some time. ” The results have been announced!! someone yelled. All the participants of the entrance exam nervously made way for the board where the participant names would be written. Rimi fidgeted with her name tag on her dress which was given to each participant. Mini took her hand and they went together with the rush. The curtain unfolded and a big board on which in big bold writing the names and ranks were written . On the other side of the corridor, the toppers ranks were written. Mini closed her eyes and prayed to god for a last minute attempt to bribe for a good result. She put on a brave smile and checked for her name. It was in the ranks side at 55. She laughed. Sure, she had been expecting a better rank with all the hard work and cramming and drooling over books she had done. But it was sure a relief for the suspence to be over. She searched the board for Rimi’s name. Ruhani..Reman..Rita…Rick..Ritu… She felt extremely disheartened when she found out that Rimi’s name was not present at all. She looked at Rimi’s face and was shocked to find her smiling. She walked out of the rush looking grave. Poor Rimi! She has so much burden on her shoulders…She was the sole earning member of her family. She had finally cracked and was putting on a brave face to hide it. She thought about how much value the job was for her. She replayed her life and in school, she thought about how Mini had always been little jealous of Rimi when she scored good marks in the exams. Suppose Rimi felt like that now? She had found a friendship only to be broken. Rimi was stronger than her. But suppose she couldn’t handle it.. She looked over at the toppers board. Immediately, she felt like the weight of the sky was lifted from her shoulders. She stared at it dumbfounded, while the other people who had seen their ranks went away, congratulating and hugging each other, behaving like kindergarteners. Only Rimi and Mini were left. “Congrats!!!! Mini yelled. Rimi was the absolute topper! Rimi blinked and laughed. “I know I studied hard! All that work has been paid off! We held hands and skipped all the way to the fast food parlour because we were starving. And so is the writer now! Whatever your troubles are, you can lay them off and continue working hard, you are a topper for everyone! Adios! I don’t want my apple pie getting cold.

A man I know

Once there was a man I know,

Sitting sadly near the river below.

” Poor man” I thought,

Clinging to the old coat which he cheaply bought.

I walked down the river and asked him his worry,

” I am faced with problems” he told me in a hurry.

Problems come to all men,

You should have courage to face them,

Sitting sadly won’t do you good,

So now buck up and face them without a hood.

The man took my advice,

Took to his feet and thought twice.

Now he had solved all his problems.

Thanking me profusely, also given me a sovereign.

Health

What in the world is superior than wealth,

The answer is good health.

What in the world is at dearth,

Health, as all are sitting with mobile phones at hearth.

What gives you a healthy and a good heart,

Not making you fat and not giving you warts.

What makes a shirt’s size neither tight not slim,

What does not make your eyes black and dim.

Health is maintained by sports or gym,

Not by chanting a magical hymn.

I am healthy because I play a sport,

Not always sitting with my coat.

Gym we agree, is not too good for  thee,

You just go and spend some money.

Cycling is the best way,

It also keeps carbon dioxide at bay.

Eco friendly and very active you become,

While cycling from school to your home.

Sports is a lovely recreation,

Not like going to a torturous tuition,

It teaches you to solve matters which are worse,

Not like an enchanted curse.

It teaches you qualities like failure, teamwork and many more,

It does not make a person sore.

A healthy person is just a blessing,

In the family who he works for a living.

Healthy society is the best,

To face challenges together and the test.

Health is a great treasure,

For people who do not only believe in pleasure.

Good health is very important,

For everyone, living in a mansion or a compartment.

Only a healthy person can make the nation great and rich,

And not a half eating witch!

River

A river flowing far below,

To my joy, it flows and flows.

It quenches up mother Earth’s thirst,

It is a place where life began at first.

No place could be more peaceful,

Than sitting by a river,

I am very grateful,

While staring in the natural mirror.

God, the river so beautiful!

Yet the world is no merciful!

Thousands of fishes live in the river and enjoy its hospitality,

But when humans come, they make it their own facility.

Draining the garbage, polluting the Earth,

Leaving the river, shrinking to dearth.

A river gives them so many things,

Water to quench their thirst and their thoughts a wing.

They use water from rivers to water their crop,

But they do not care about its single drop.

At the last I want to say,

Save the rivers so they don’t decay.

Education

What in the world is nearly amiss,

To the poor starving folks and not the rich.

What in the world often parents want their child to gain,

For the sake of their children, parents take the pain.

What gives you a healthy job,

And be followed by a mob,

In what sometimes is the death of curiosity,

But still taken by people of majority.

An educated person knows how to debate,

And knows not to be late.

But why in education,

There is discrimination?

Shouldn’t we enlighten all young minds,

As a service to our country with all our might?

Right to education is like an accessory,

For everyone girl or boy, rich or poor, very necessary.

Many acts have come to force,

For education and many more.

Right to education act which came in force in 2009,

Fulfilled the needs, the needs of the children’s merciful pines.

All under the leadership of educated civil servants,

Whether is it Prime Minister or President.

At the last I want to say,

Education is like a tool to empower each one of us everyday.

Impact of mobile on humans

In the light of the dawn of the day,

You wake up but you do not say,

Good morning or anything else,

Just pick up your phone and see your chats.

In bed, you message to your mom,

To get you tea and a comb,

You brush your hair and drink your tea,

But still you do not get out of the bed and make yourself free.

Now you have to go to school,

But you are busy in the game I am cool,

You get up and wear your shirt,

But still you do not leave your phone.

Now the Van horn comes, you are late!

You rush out to see your mate!

Now in school you forgot your test,

Because you didn’t prepare for the best.

Now you have got a big fat zero,

But in mobile games you are still the hero!

You come to home quite sad,

Wondering what you will say to your dad.

The impact of mobile is very bad,

It makes you lazy and very fat.

You should watch mobile 2 hours a day,

Lest you want your eyes to decay.

At the last I want to say,

You should not use mobile all day.

Courage

What in the world is owned by someone,

But is not owned by everyone.

What does not see the colour, religion or caste,

But also rewards you at the last.

What gives you a greater name,

And also increases your fame.

What a weak person does not have,

Though he is the richest of the men.

It cannot be bought,

It cannot be sold.

Though it can be taught,

It cannot be told.

It can only be showed.

It is just like a game of the mind,

It varies from persons of different kind.

It only favours the brave,

It can also be achieved by the naive.

Courage is like a great value of money,

Given to only those who remain tough in adversity.

Be courageous and show to all,

You have the courage and you can solve them all.
